What fence repair involves
Leaning posts, broken pickets and gates that stopped latching. The part homeowners rarely see is everything underneath: the decking, the underlayment, the flashing at every wall and penetration. That is where a roof either lasts or starts leaking in three years.
Jonathan walks the roof before quoting anything, photographs what he finds, and shows you the pictures. You get told what it needs and what it does not, in plain language, and the number you get is the number you pay.
Read that back and it sounds like the bare minimum. It is. It is also the thing most people say they did not get from the last contractor they hired, which is why we keep saying it out loud.
How the job actually goes

A written price with the scope spelled out. Nothing appears on the invoice later that was not on the quote.

Magnet over the yard, debris in the trailer, and a walkthrough so you can see what you paid for.
What actually goes wrong
These are the failures we actually find on fence repair jobs around the metro, in the order they turn up.
Prep is most of the job
Paint fails because of what was under it. Chalked surfaces, unprimed bare wood, and painting over moisture all guarantee peeling regardless of how good the paint is. The part of an exterior paint job that determines its lifespan happens before any color goes on.
Posts decide whether a fence stands
A fence fails at ground level. Posts set too shallow, or set in soil that holds water against untreated wood, will lean within a few seasons no matter how good the pickets are. Depth and drainage at the post is the whole game.
Match the material to the exposure
A south-facing wall takes far more ultraviolet punishment than a shaded north wall, and the same coating will not last the same time on both. Same with fencing: a run along a wet low spot needs different material than one on high ground.
Ask what they would do if it were their own house. It is a simple question and the answer is usually revealing.
Ask to see photographs of your own roof. Anybody who quotes a roof they did not walk is guessing, and you are the one who pays for the guess.
Ask what happens if they open the roof and find bad decking. The honest answer is a per-sheet price agreed in advance. The answer to worry about is a shrug.
If you have had a quote already and something about it did not sit right, a second look is worth the time. Comparing two written assessments with photographs attached usually makes the answer obvious.
The assessment is free and it carries no obligation. Plenty of the roofs we look at turn out to need nothing yet, and being told that is a perfectly good outcome.
Ask for photographs of your own roof from anyone who quotes this work, including us. It is the difference between a factual conversation and a sales pitch.
None of this needs to be decided on the phone. The useful next step is having somebody get on the roof, photograph what is actually there, and put the findings in writing so you can think about it.

Questions we get asked
How fast can you get out to look at it?
Usually within a day or two, and sooner when water is actively coming in. Jonathan does the look himself, so you are not waiting on a salesman to pass a message along to a crew.
Do you handle fence repair on commercial buildings too?
Yes, on small commercial. Churches, restaurants, warehouses, duplexes and small apartment buildings are regular work for us. We schedule around your hours so the business keeps running.
Will you tell me if I do not actually need this?
Yes, and we do it often. Several of our best reviews came from telling somebody their roof had years left. If a repair is the honest answer instead of a replacement, that is what Jonathan will tell you.
Are you licensed and insured?
Licensed, bonded and insured, with an A+ rating from the BBB. We can send proof before we start, and you should ask that of anybody who climbs on your roof.
What does cleanup look like when you are finished?
We pick up after ourselves. Debris goes in the trailer, the yard gets run with a magnet for nails, and the landscaping gets protected while we work.
Do you offer financing?
We do, for roofing and exterior projects. It is worth asking about if the timing of the work and the timing of the money do not quite line up.

Most properties need more than one thing handled, and it is cheaper to do it in one trip than three.
